In April, 2016 HABA donated a $1,000.00 to The Atlee High School Emerging Leaders - Camp Hope.
The Atlee High School Emerging Leaders are seniors chosen from an applicant pool at the school emphasizing grades, previous community service, volunteerism, and input from teachers/advisers. Through a collaborative effort between the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond and Hanover County Public Schools, students participated in a week long Summer Leadership Institute held on the University campus last summer. Throughout the school year, they volunteer for a host of projects ranging from drug and alcohol prevention in the schools to assisting special needs kids in the community. While required to do at least 10 hours in very specific organizations most do many, many more. It is an honor to serve.
Each year, the Emerging Leaders choose a particular project and are responsible for all aspects of that project, reporting to their advisor. This year, they chose Camp Hope based in Mechanicsville, VA. Camp Hope sends underprivileged kids to camp; and this chapter sends Hanover kids to the Camp which is in the Western part of the state. Many have never seen the outdoors in this way before. The Emerging Leaders raised enough money to send 15 kids to camp! HABA was a strong financial partner in that project.
